FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Everything about FollowTo: public community pages, OTP verified RSVPs, event discovery, pricing, security, and attendee privacy.

Getting started

What is FollowTo?
FollowTo is a community and events platform. Organizers create public community pages and SEO-friendly event pages in less than two minutes. For casual meetups and free gatherings, guests RSVP in under 30 seconds. For ticketed events, they register and pay where checkout is enabled. Browse upcoming events and communities at /events and /communities. No attendee account required.
What is the difference between RSVP and registration?
RSVP is for casual and free events: coffee meetups, community gatherings, workshops with no ticket. Registration is for ticketed or paid events, including built-in ticket tiers and checkout. Your dashboard lists every sign-up in one place, whatever the event type.
Do attendees need to create an account?
No. Attendees only need the details your event form collects (name is always required; email, phone, and other fields depend on your settings). When email is collected, they confirm via a 6-digit OTP. No password required. Confirming automatically follows your community.
What does 'auto-follow' mean?
When an attendee confirms via OTP, they are automatically added as a member of your community. They appear in your community's member list and can be notified about future events.
What is the difference between pending and confirmed?
When someone submits your form, their spot is pending until they enter the OTP from their confirmation email. Confirmed means their email is verified and their spot is locked in. For ticketed events, checkout may happen after OTP verification.
How do I create an event?
Go to your dashboard, click Events, then New Event. Work through the guided steps (Details, Schedule, Location, Tickets, RSVP form). Each step saves automatically when you click Next, so you can go back, leave, and resume later. Publish on the last step when you are ready.
Where can people find my community or events?
Each community gets its own public page on FollowTo with a shareable link you choose when you set up. Published events get SEO-friendly URLs and can appear in FollowTo discovery at /events and /communities, filterable by city, topic, and date. Share your community QR code or event link anywhere.

Comparisons

Is FollowTo an alternative to Meetup?
Yes, for community organizers who want OTP verified RSVPs without attendee platform accounts. Meetup charges organizer fees and ties attendance to Meetup profiles. FollowTo Free includes 1 community, 3 active events, and 100 confirmed registrations per event, plus public discovery at /events.
Is FollowTo an alternative to Luma?
Yes, when you need 6-digit email OTP verification, permanent public community pages, and per-community pricing. Luma supports free events and CSV export but does not verify attendee email with OTP. FollowTo also lists published events on /events and does not require attendees to create a platform account.
How does FollowTo compare to Eventbrite or Facebook Events?
FollowTo fits free meetups and community gatherings; Eventbrite fits large ticketed conferences with per-ticket fees. Facebook Events ties sign-ups to social profiles. FollowTo uses OTP email confirmation, organizer-controlled form fields, and optional ticket tiers with PayU checkout when you need paid registration (5% + fixed per ticket).

Discover and sharing

How do I discover events near me?
Visit /events to browse upcoming events. Pick your city or let FollowTo suggest one from your location. Filter by topic, tags, format (online, in-person, hybrid), and date range. Signed-in users also see personalized recommendation rails.
How do I find communities to follow?
Visit /communities to browse organizer communities in your area. Filter by topic and format, then open a community page to see upcoming events and follow the organizer.
Does my community get a QR code?
Yes. Download labeled QR codes from your dashboard: one to help people follow your community, and one per event for RSVP or ticket checkout. Each card shows the community or event name and is ready to print.

Events and ticketing

Can I collect payment for events?
Two paths: (1) Share an external payment link or mark attendees paid manually in your dashboard; FollowTo does not charge a ticket fee. (2) Sell ticket tiers with FollowTo checkout (PayU); a per-ticket service fee applies (5% + ₹5 INR or 5% + $0.30 USD, deducted from your payout). See the Payout Policy for details.
Does FollowTo charge fees on free events?
No. Free RSVP events have no FollowTo ticket fee.
What if I collect payment myself (external link, UPI, bank transfer)?
FollowTo does not charge a ticket fee when payment happens outside FollowTo checkout. If you share a payment link in your event description or mark attendees as paid manually, that is between you and your guests. FollowTo only charges a fee when a ticket is sold through FollowTo checkout (PayU).
What is the fee on paid event tickets?
When a buyer pays through FollowTo checkout, FollowTo deducts an all-in fee from your payout: 5% of the ticket price plus ₹5 per ticket (INR) or 5% plus $0.30 per ticket (USD). The buyer pays the listed ticket price only. The same fee applies on all community plans. Minimum ticket price is ₹99 or $5.00. See our Payout Policy for T+3 settlement.
How is the ticket fee calculated?
Per ticket sold through FollowTo checkout. Example: a ₹500 ticket fee is 5% (₹25) + ₹5 = ₹30; you receive ₹470. A $20 ticket fee is 5% ($1.00) + $0.30 = $1.30; you receive $18.70. Fixed fees differ by currency because payment processing costs differ.
Is the ticket fee the same as my Pro or Enterprise subscription?
No. Pro and Enterprise are monthly or yearly community plan subscriptions for higher limits and features. Ticket fees are separate and only apply when you sell paid tickets through FollowTo checkout.
Where can I see my ticket sales and estimated payout?
Open your event in the dashboard and go to Ticket sales. You will see tickets sold, gross sales, the FollowTo service fee, and your estimated payout after that fee. The estimate does not include separate bank or payout transfer fees. Payouts follow our T+3 policy after the event ends.
Can I export my attendee list?
Yes, on Pro and Enterprise plans. Export confirmed registrations to CSV from your event dashboard.
Can I add custom questions to my sign-up form?
Yes, on all plans. Add up to 10 custom questions per event: text, single choice, or multiple choice. Configure them in the RSVP form step when creating or editing an event.
Does FollowTo support promo codes?
Yes, on Pro and Enterprise plans. Create percent or fixed discount codes for paid event tickets. Manage codes per community from your dashboard under Promo codes.
Can I run online, in-person, or hybrid events?
Yes. When creating an event, choose in-person, online, or hybrid. Online events use an online location slug in their public URL; in-person events use the venue city and country.
How do online events work on FollowTo?
Connect Zoom, Google, or Microsoft Teams once in Settings → Integrations. When you publish an online or hybrid event, FollowTo can create the meeting automatically (Zoom meetings and Google Meet/Teams do not require a second guest sign-up). For Zoom webinars, FollowTo adds each confirmed guest as a registrant. Guests register only on FollowTo; after OTP confirmation, FollowTo emails them a personal join link. You can also paste a manual join link as a fallback.
Do guests register twice for online events?
No. FollowTo is the only registration form. Zoom meetings, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams sessions created through FollowTo do not require a separate provider sign-up. Zoom webinars get one registrant per confirmed guest via the API. Guests receive a personal FollowTo join link after confirmation.
Why does my join link go through followto.io/join?
Each confirmed guest gets a personal FollowTo join link. They sign in with the email they registered with, enter the meeting passcode from their confirmation or reminder email, and then join. If you cancel their registration, the link stops working. Calendar invites include the same personal link (passcode stays in email only).
Who gets session analytics and the event archive?
Pro and Enterprise plans per community. Free communities keep RSVP responses and join-link clicks only.
How accurate is Zoom attendance sync?
Webinars are usually more accurate than meetings. Reports can take 30+ minutes after the event ends. You can edit attendee and duration fields anytime.
Does Google Meet or Microsoft Teams sync today?
Phase 1 ships Zoom auto-sync plus manual entry. Google Meet and Teams adapters are planned; until then, enter attendance manually on the post-event report.
How many recordings and photos can I add?
Up to 20 YouTube links per unique event day (for example, 60 links on a 3-day event) and 12 FollowTo-hosted photos per event, plus one optional external gallery URL.
Who can see uploaded event photos?
You choose per photo: Anyone (appears as a teaser on the public event page), OTP-verified registrants, attendees only, or community followers.
Who can see recordings and the external gallery?
Recordings and the external gallery are always gated. You choose from three audiences: community followers, OTP-verified registrants, or attendees. They never appear on the public event page.
Will registrants get email when I add a recording?
Only if you opt in after each add. You choose all OTP-verified registrants or attended only. Followers who did not register are never emailed.
Can viewers ask questions on archived recordings?
Yes, on Pro and Enterprise communities. Viewers who can access a gated recording can submit questions while watching. You review and answer from the Event archive dashboard. Free communities do not include recording Q&A.

Analytics and reporting

Does FollowTo track where registrations come from?
Yes. FollowTo captures UTM parameters (source, medium, campaign) when someone registers via a tagged campaign link. The UTM campaign analytics report with source breakdown is available on Pro and Enterprise plans, including for users you invite with Analytics Access. Free communities see basic registration counts only.
What is the registration analytics PDF report?
Enterprise communities can download a formatted PDF summary of registration analytics, including source attribution, campaign performance, and event totals. Pro communities get the same data in the dashboard and CSV export, but not the PDF report.
What is the shared analytics dashboard?
Enterprise organizers can view registration analytics across all their Enterprise communities in one dashboard. Compare events and campaigns without switching between community accounts.

Pricing and plans

Is FollowTo really free?
Yes. The Free plan includes 1 community, up to 3 active events at a time, and up to 100 confirmed registrations per event, forever.
What are the plan limits?
Free: 1 community, 3 active events, 100 registrations per event, 1 city, custom sign-up fields, and basic registration analytics. Pro ($9/mo per community): unlimited communities, 3 active events each, 500 registrations per event, up to 10 cities in one country, CSV export, UTM campaign analytics report, team access (Analytics and Registrant Manager roles), promo codes for paid events, post-event archive with recordings and photos, recording Q&A, Developer API keys. Enterprise ($19/mo per community): 10 active events, 1,000 registrations per event, unlimited cities across countries, CSV export, registration analytics PDF report, shared analytics across communities, Developer API, webhooks and partner integrations on request, and dedicated support.
How does per-community pricing work?
Each community has its own plan. If you have 3 communities, you can have one on Pro ($9/mo), one on Enterprise ($19/mo), and one on Free. You only pay for the communities that need more capacity.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. Cancel from the Billing page at any time. Your community keeps its paid plan until the end of the current billing period, then downgrades to Free automatically.
Do you offer yearly billing?
Yes. Yearly billing saves 20%. Pro is $7.2/mo (billed $86.4/yr) and Enterprise is $15.2/mo (billed $182.4/yr) per community. Checkout uses PayU in USD.
What is team access?
Pro and Enterprise communities can invite delegates without sharing owner credentials. Analytics Access lets someone view registration reports and analytics, including the UTM campaign breakdown on Pro and Enterprise, from Shared analytics in their dashboard. Registration Access lets someone manage sign-ups and responses. Invite from your dashboard under Team access.

Developers and integrations

Does FollowTo have an API?
Yes. Pro and Enterprise organizers can create API keys in the dashboard under Settings → Developers or the Developers page. Use keys to list your communities, events, registrations, and ticket sales as JSON. Public discovery feeds are at /feed/events.json. Full reference: /app/developers.
Can I connect FollowTo to Zapier or my CRM?
Use your API key with the read endpoints documented at /app/developers. Pull registrations with GET /api/v1/communities/{username}/registrations?eventId=... and ticket sales with GET /api/v1/events/{eventId}/ticket-sales. Pro or Enterprise is required for the community.
What are trusted partner APIs?
Separate server-to-server endpoints for approved platform partners who already verify email on their side. POST /api/membership/trusted (follow or unfollow a community) and POST /api/rsvp/trusted (register or cancel without a second FollowTo OTP). These use a partner secret, not self-service API keys. Contact support for partner onboarding.
Can Enterprise customers get webhooks?
Yes, on request. Enterprise teams can ask for outbound webhooks when a registration is confirmed, an event is published, or a ticket is paid. We provision webhooks and trusted partner APIs per account during onboarding. Contact sales or support to start an integration review.

Security and compliance

How does FollowTo support compliance teams?
FollowTo publishes clear privacy, cookie, and data handling policies. Every user can download a JSON copy of their data and permanently delete their account from Settings → Privacy & data. See our compliance page at /app/compliance and security readiness at /app/security. Organizers can export attendee CSV on Pro and Enterprise. Enterprise includes a deletion audit log and configurable attendee retention per community.
Is there an enterprise compliance package?
Enterprise includes dedicated onboarding, a deletion audit dashboard, per-community attendee retention controls, DPA template, and security documentation for vendor reviews. Contact sales for a countersigned DPA.
Can we request a security or policy review?
Yes. Enterprise customers can contact support to coordinate policy and onboarding reviews with the FollowTo team.
Which providers does FollowTo use?
We use Turso (libSQL) for database storage, Resend for transactional email, and PayU for plan billing and ticket checkout (India and international). Our full subprocessors list is in our Privacy Policy.
Does FollowTo use subprocessors that transfer data internationally?
Yes. Like most SaaS platforms, some infrastructure providers may process data across jurisdictions. We document subprocessors and controls in our Privacy Policy.

Privacy and user rights

Are community pages public?
Yes. Organizer community pages are public on FollowTo so attendees can discover events and follow your community. Attendee accounts collect only what your event form requires, and account holders can delete their data from Settings.
Can attendees delete their data?
Yes. Attendees can cancel their RSVP or registration at any time using the cancel link in their confirmation email. Users with accounts can permanently delete all their data from Settings > Privacy & data > Delete my data permanently and forever. Deletion is processed immediately.
What data does FollowTo collect when someone signs up?
Only what the organizer configures: name (always required), email (organizer chooses required/optional/disabled), phone (optional by default), food/drink preferences, custom message, and interests. We never collect more than the organizer enables.
