Zoom integration guide
How organizers connect Zoom to FollowTo, auto-create online sessions, and disconnect safely. Last updated: June 2026.
FollowTo is a community and events platform operated by Mantra Solventure. This guide covers the optional Zoom integration for organizers who run online or hybrid events.
Who this is for
Event organizers with a FollowTo account and a Zoom account. Guests do not connect Zoom; they RSVP on FollowTo and receive a personal join link after email confirmation.
Prerequisites
- A FollowTo organizer account at followto.io
- A completed community profile (required before Settings → Integrations)
- A Zoom account with permission to schedule meetings
- For Zoom webinars: a Zoom plan that includes webinars
- For post-event attendance sync: a Pro or Enterprise community on FollowTo (optional)
Adding the app
- Sign up or sign in at followto.io.
- Complete your community profile if you have not already (Dashboard → Communities).
- Open Dashboard → Settings → Integrations.
- Under Zoom, click Connect Zoom.
- Sign in to Zoom if prompted, review the requested permissions, and click Allow.
- You return to Settings with a message such as Connected as [your Zoom email].
You can also add FollowTo from the Zoom App Marketplace, then sign in to FollowTo when redirected to authorize the connection.
Troubleshooting connection
- Integrations tab missing: Finish community setup first. Integrations appear after your first community profile is complete.
- OAuth error or invalid state: Start Connect Zoom again from Settings. Do not open the OAuth link in multiple tabs.
- Wrong Zoom account connected: Disconnect in Settings, then connect again while signed into the correct Zoom account in your browser.
- Connect button does nothing: Confirm you are signed in to FollowTo and try a private/incognito window with pop-ups allowed.
- Need more help? Email support@followto.io or use our contact form. We typically reply within a few hours on business days (Mon - Fri, 9am - 6pm IST).
Using the integration
Auto-create a Zoom meeting
Use case: Host a live online event; FollowTo creates the Zoom meeting on your account when you publish.
- Connect Zoom (see above).
- Dashboard → Events → Create event (or edit a draft).
- Set event mode to Online (or Hybrid with an online component).
- Under Online meeting, select Zoom meeting.
- Add title, description, date, and time (future date required).
- Publish the event.
FollowTo creates a Zoom meeting on your connected account. The event dashboard shows a host start URL. Confirmed guests receive a personal FollowTo join link by email (after OTP confirmation). Guests RSVP only on FollowTo; they do not register separately on Zoom for standard meetings.
Auto-create a Zoom webinar
Use case: Large broadcast-style sessions where each confirmed guest should appear as a Zoom webinar registrant.
Prerequisites: Zoom connected; Zoom account with webinar capability.
- Create or edit an online event.
- Under Online meeting, select Zoom webinar.
- Publish the event.
- When a guest confirms RSVP (OTP verified), FollowTo adds them as a webinar registrant via the Zoom API.
Update event schedule
Use case: You change the date, time, or title of a published event that already has an auto-created Zoom session.
Edit the event in FollowTo and save. FollowTo updates the linked Zoom meeting or webinar to match the new schedule and title.
Unpublish, cancel, or delete an event
Use case: You no longer want the session to run.
Unpublish or delete the event from the FollowTo dashboard. For events that used auto-create, FollowTo removes the linked Zoom meeting or webinar from your Zoom account (best effort if your token expired; reconnect Zoom and retry if needed).
Manual join link (fallback)
If you prefer to paste your own Zoom link instead of auto-create, expand Use my own link under Online meeting and enter the URL. FollowTo does not create or manage that meeting through the API.
Post-event attendance (Pro and Enterprise)
Use case: See who attended after an online Zoom event ends.
Prerequisites: Pro or Enterprise community; event published with auto-created Zoom meeting or webinar; event has ended.
FollowTo syncs past participant reports from Zoom on a schedule and matches guests by email on the event Responses page. You can review attendance counts and export data on supported plans.
Removing the app
From FollowTo
- Open Dashboard → Settings → Integrations.
- Click Disconnect next to Zoom.
When you disconnect:
- FollowTo deletes your stored Zoom OAuth tokens and integration record.
- FollowTo revokes the access token with Zoom (best effort).
- New events will not auto-create Zoom sessions until you connect again.
- Existing published events may still show previously issued guest join links. Meetings already created on Zoom remain in your Zoom account until you delete them in Zoom or unpublish/delete the FollowTo event.
From Zoom
- Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace.
- Click Manage → Added Apps (or search for FollowTo).
- Select FollowTo and click Remove.
When you remove FollowTo from Zoom:
- Zoom sends a deauthorization notification to FollowTo.
- FollowTo deletes your stored OAuth tokens for that Zoom user ID.
- Auto-create stops for new events; reconnect in FollowTo if you want to use Zoom again.
- Zoom meetings or webinars already on your Zoom account are not automatically deleted; manage them in the Zoom web portal or by unpublishing events in FollowTo before removal.
Delete your FollowTo account
Account deletion from Settings → Privacy & data also removes stored integration tokens. See our Privacy Policy for full details on data retention and erasure.
Zoom permissions we request
FollowTo requests only the Zoom OAuth scopes needed for the features below. Each scope maps to a specific action in FollowTo:
| Scope | Used for |
|---|---|
| user:read:user | Identify your Zoom account on connect (email shown in Settings) |
| meeting:write:meeting | Create a Zoom meeting when you publish an online event |
| meeting:read:meeting | Read meeting join and host start URLs after create or update |
| meeting:update:meeting | Update meeting time, title, and agenda when you edit an event |
| meeting:delete:meeting | Delete the linked meeting when you unpublish or delete an event |
| webinar:write:webinar | Create a Zoom webinar when you publish with Zoom webinar selected |
| webinar:read:webinar | Read webinar join and host start URLs after create or update |
| webinar:update:webinar | Update webinar schedule and details when you edit an event |
| webinar:delete:webinar | Delete the linked webinar when you unpublish or delete an event |
| webinar:write:registrant | Add each OTP-confirmed guest as a webinar registrant |
| meeting:read:list_past_instances | Find the ended meeting instance before reading attendance (Pro and Enterprise) |
| meeting:read:list_past_participants | Post-event attendance sync for Zoom meetings (Pro and Enterprise) |
| webinar:read:list_past_participants | Post-event attendance sync for Zoom webinars (Pro and Enterprise) |
Data we access
Through Zoom OAuth, FollowTo accesses only what is needed to create and manage meetings and webinars tied to your events, add webinar registrants for confirmed guests, and (on Pro and Enterprise) read post-event participant reports. We do not access Zoom cloud recordings, in-meeting chat, or participant audio/video through this integration. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
